Finding a Surrogate in North Carolina

The term “gestational carrier,” or “surrogate,” is a woman who agrees to carry a pregnancy for an individual or couple, known as the intended parents. Since opening our doors, Fertility Source Companies has worked with more than 4,500 IPs, both within the United States and internationally, striving to assist them in their surrogate search.

Surrogacy Laws in North Carolina

Currently, North Carolina has no specific laws or regulations regarding surrogacy in place, but the state has long been thought to be friendly toward surrogacy, with courts having a favorable attitude toward surrogacy arrangements and legal proceedings. Surrogacy contracts that are drafted by attorneys with reproductive law experience are considered valid and enforceable. These attorneys are responsible for establishing the rights, responsibilities, compensation, contact expectations, and birth plans between IPs and gestational surrogates.

Become a Surrogate in North Carolina

At this time, we thank you for considering joining us as a North Carolina surrogate. Feel free to review this guide and find out just how you’ll be able to transform the lives of aspiring parents.

Why Become a Surrogate in North Carolina

As you may know, the decision to be a gestational surrogate is an altruistic endeavor. Through your actions, you’re giving another individual or couple a chance to realize their dreams of being parents. At Fertility Source Companies, we believe you should be amply compensated for this, including total reimbursements for expenses incurred.

Surrogate Requirements in North Carolina

We value the continued health and wellness of our surrogates, as this enables successful pregnancy outcomes and an overall positive experience. All North Carolina candidates must pass demanding surrogate requirements, devised to keep them safe and secure, while also protecting the babies they carry as well as the intended parents. These guidelines include:

  • Being 21-43 years old
  • Having experienced at least one healthy pregnancy and childbirth, but no more than five past live births or three C-section births
  • Being a United States citizen or having the right to legally work in the U.S.
  • Not having to rely on federal or state assistance
  • Being both a non-smoker and a non-drug user
  • Having a remarkable history of physical and mental health
  • Having a stable home environment
  • Having dependable transportation
  • Passing both physical and mental health screenings
  • Passing a criminal background evaluation

The Surrogacy Process

If your goal is to qualify as a surrogacy candidate with Fertility Source Companies, the first step is applying. To be accepted into our candidate database, you’ll have to provide medical records. This is also when you’ll be subjected to background checks for you and anyone in your household over the age of 18, as well as mental and physical health screenings. Upon being registered, the next step is matching up with prospective IPs in a virtual meeting. Once matching has occurred, the surrogacy process calls for certain steps to be completed.

  • You will have an extensive physical examination, conducted by the IP’s selected fertility specialist.
  • You will sign a surrogacy agreement with an attorney.
  • You will begin self-injecting yourself with a series of hormonal medications to prepare for pregnancy, typically for about 30 to 60 days, once a day.
  • You will undergo the embryo transfer procedure.
  • Pregnancy is confirmed through multiple ultrasounds and blood tests.
  • You will meet with your local obstetrician (OB) for regular pregnancy visits and the delivery.

Understandably, the surrogacy process may seem confusing or overwhelming, at least at first. Please know that the Fertility Source Companies team is available to assist you throughout your surrogacy journey. You may find it reassuring that several of our staff members were themselves surrogates. Being well-versed in the process, they’ll provide crucial, next-level support. We invite you to review the surrogacy process.
